Hosted by the Promenade restaurant against the coastal backdrop of Bondi Beach, the event welcomed special guests, speakers, and long-term supporters of HOPE, including Member for Wentworth Allegra Spender, Mayor Paula Masselos, and Dharawal woman Matilda Brown from Waverley Council, who welcomed attendees with an Acknowledgement of Country.
With the event falling at the start of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, calls for action against forms of domestic violence occurring across both Sydney and the country are stronger and louder than ever, helping to amplify the importance and the purpose of the HOPE Program.
Speaking about the recent tragedies and increased domestic violence occurring across Sydney, Mayor Paula Masselos stressed the importance of programs like HOPE in breaking the cycle of violence and ensuring safety for women and children,
“…the loss of more innocent women to domestic violence in NSW this year, has brought into sharp focus the crucial role that support services such as CatholicCare play in the fabric of our society.
Research shows that a safe and supported start to life leads to better health, education and social outcomes throughout life, and that’s something that our organisation (Waverley Council) is committed to achieving for our community.”
The morning was filled with heartfelt stories, inspiring speeches, and a shared commitment to ensuring young mothers and their children have access to the care and resources they need. Guests heard from HOPE Practice Manager, Jade, who shared powerful insights into the challenges faced by young families and how HOPE provides the practical and emotional support to help them build brighter futures.
A highlight of the event was the generosity of attendees, who contributed to fundraising efforts via raffle tickets and online auction. Thanks to the collective effort of donors and supporters, HOPE can continue to walk alongside young families.
As the event came to a close, there was a renewed sense of purpose among attendees—an understanding that programs like HOPE are not just about providing immediate relief, but about breaking cycles of disadvantage and creating long-term change. With the support of the community, HOPE will keep supporting young families to thrive, ensuring that every child has the chance for a safe and hopeful future.
